New to Mastery Connect? This beginner-friendly session will guide secondary educators through the process of creating effective, standards-aligned assessments using Mastery Connect. Participants will explore how to build assessments from scratch or item banks, align questions to standards, and use formative data to inform instruction and support student growth. Designed with classroom practicality in mind, this hands-on session will help you take the first steps toward data-driven teaching that empowers both educators and students.

The session will support Goals 2 and 5 of the Compass to 2030. The session will provide participants with a brief overview of the impact of trauma on behavior and share trauma-informed strategies and resources to support students within all tiers of support. With a primary focus on Tier I and Tier II practices, this interactive session will allow participants to share practices collaboratively, develop a toolbox of strategies, and apply knowledge gained in the session to real world classroom scenarios.

This session is best suited for teachers new to Canva or those who want to learn how to do more with what they already know. For the first 10 to 15 minutes, I will be sharing a Canva presentation that I have made specifically for this session; I will discuss whether building a presentation from scratch is better than using an already made template, as well as how to create engaging lessons while also allowing students to use Canva for presentations. The remaining 20 to 30 minutes will be time for teachers to explore Canva on their own as they work to create a lesson for use next school year; I will be circulating the room to answer questions and assist as needed.
