The American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) identifies providing effective feedback as one of its guiding principles for language learning. This session provides an opportunity for WL teachers to deepen their knowledge of when and how to assess student progress toward language proficiency using the updated level I-IV WL curricula and shared understanding of ACTFL proficiency levels gained through Avant ADVANCE, last year's essential training. This session will provide practical strategies for providing effective feedback and offering opportunities for learner self-reflection.
This Is School (TIS) has seen many changes and updates, including a rebrand from This Is Language and new features, including writing and speaking tasks, and integration with ClassLink. This session is appropriate for novice to experienced users of TIS and will provide an overview of how to use this key resource to support implementation of updated WL curricula. Participants will learn strategies for regularly utilizing TIS videos, activities, and other resources for daily instruction and assessment.
